SCARLET´S WELL
"THE ISLE OF THE BLUE FLOWERS" Cat No. siesta 114

If you are sitting around in the limbo of the present age, dreaming of times when history and legend collided, waiting for passion or humour to strike, Scarlet's Well is your magic lamp. The Isle Of The Blue Flowers is the second episode devised by Bid -the great leader of the Monochrome Set- who returns with another landmark work, the sequel to the pioneer debut Strange letters (released in 1999). A great destiny was reserved for Siesta when Bid was incorporated in to our company. The Isle of the Blue Flowers is the living proof of the triumph of the spirit and the intelligence. Let me keep it short and simple: this record is without doubt the best possible release that we could ever dream of.

Recorded in the Spring of 2000 at The Moat, the album was not suddenly full-grown like Athena from Zeus' skull. Guided by an invisible technique that deepens his mystique Bid, develops a complex labyrinth of characters surrounded by an idyllic atmosphere. Bid has Hellenic beauty in his face and aristocratic manners. He is undoubtedly one of the most enormous talents in the British pop. Scarlet's Well has his own infallible vocals and the contribution of delicate female vocal artists, with the assistance of Orson Presence and Toby Robinson.

Bid explores profoundly more imaginary remote lands and times. The fantasy soundscapes are more South-American in this record. You will discover pagan romances and tales, magic rites and spells, sailors and pirates, whales and boats and an outfit of heroes and villains. There is a kind of subtle poetry recalling of the Irish films directed by John Ford but with a Latin flavour, if you can imagine that. The use of strange exotic instruments (with cultural transcendence) fuses with pop elements, making a territory full of emotions. But the whole concept is beyond description, evading reality- there is a special esoteric quality that imbues everything.

The opening track Isle Of The Blue Flowers reveals the parameters and latitudes of the musical place where you arrive. Some magical and ethereal songs as Fragment Of A Parchment and Pirate defy any interpretation but place your imagination and mood. The catchy and sunny side of the island is displayed with the female vocals of Dark Dreams Aboard The Hesperus and Lord Fishgarlic's last expedition. Luminous Creatures is a sweet and fresh timeless pop gem. There is even a ballad that sounds as if it had been written by the wind- Street Of A Thousand Fools. Too good to be true. Finally, you can find talismans of folk revival as Raven's Treasure and Dragon. Clop's Birthday belongs to the unique Monochrome Set genre, while Old McGhee is a song that suits the privacy of your living room.

You will definitely appreciate the songs herein contained staying away from whatever trend is fashionable this week. Thank you Bid!
