News 9-7-00

Sorry for the late news on this (it was released in May of this year), but Bid has a new CD out with Scarlet's Well. Having a year of relative quiet, the CD marks the return to winning ways for Bid & Co. A new line up including Bid's wife sees SW record 12 tracks, with Bid singing more than the first CD (see below).. Anyway, buy the CD and enjoy....

The Isle of the Blue Flowers

So the new arrives and a new CD is finally released. Strange Letters by Scarlet's Well finally hit our music stores last week.

The LP sees Bid return to the recording studio for the first time since Songs for the Jet Set last year.

Scarlet's Well comprise of Bid, three lovely young ladies and Mr Orson Presence. The LP is once again produced by long time collabrator Tony Robinson. Full details are on the web page <click here>

News 30-11-98

El records have a new 'best of' release entitled, The Ruling Class which not only features tracks by the band and Bid, but the King of Luxembourg, Momus, Anthony Adverse and many more. Released on Cherry Red (Cat No. Acme 27CD). The tracks by the Monochrome Set are, The Ruling Class and The Noise. Bid's Whoops! What a palaver is also featured. Anyway this CD is available now, or very soon...

Older news...... (but still relevant)

As announced previously, Lost Weekend has finally made it to CD, for a copy please contact Music Inferno in the US - they specialise in Japanese imports and are reasonably priced. The Cat. No. is WPCR-1461. As far as I'm aware its still not released in Europe. Perhaps Warners have something up their sleeve... a re-release with Jacob's Ladder ??

I have finally tracked down a copy of the live video - a big thanks to Roy Kane for that. It does bring back memories...

We're still getting a few enteries into the guestbook - keep 'em coming...

As for the band themselves... they recently played some gigs in Greece of all places !! There are no plans for further gigs at the moment. Bid is still working with If... records and working along side Mike Alway in producing Ever Lasting Gobstopper's CD...this was the last I heard... I'll keep you updated !!

History

Many thanks to Louise Bodin for supplying some excellent inrerviews with the band circa 1984/5. Hopefully, given the time I'll be able to put them on the web site for all to read. I must point out though some are in Swedish so I may have to give them a miss. Until then make do with the following piece of history.............Fermaniax : Have you Heard...The Monochrome Set?

Line Up

Bid - Lead Vocals and Guitar

Andy Warren - Bass Guitar

Orson Presence - Keyboards, Guitar and Vocals

Lester Square - Guitar

Trevor Reidy - Drums

Video

All that exists at present in UK is Destiny Calling, distributed WIDE ANGLE (cat no. JE259), despite the live video to The Monochrome Set Live album. This was recorded by Central TV in Nottingham and broadcast in the early hours of the morning some years ago. The series of shows entitled Bedrock was eventually bought by a distributor except the Monochrome's. I believe this to be still unreleased. A video by the title Strange Destiny exists in Japan, whether or not this is the same as the UK release I don't know. Strange Destiny was released by Toys' Factory Japan...... I' now believe it is the one the same !!

More Videos...

Apparently there is indeed several more videos out there for people to hunt down. A one hour Japanese live gig entitled 'Space Shower' is probably available on pirate.. so keep you eyes pealed for that one. Also there a couple of US TV shows called American Bandstand and The Uncle Floyd Show in which they played on.

Contact the band.....
